International Bear Rendezvous: Bear Patrol. A preview of the biggest IBR ever

February 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

All of us on the IBR 2008 Committee staff are putting the finishing
touches on our 9-month preparation for what we hope is the best  IBR ever. Bears On Patrol- Bears in
Uniform celebrates just that- police, fireman, army, etc.

Before we get into a little tour of what to expect, we want to remind
everyone that IBR is a monumental event and it
takes about 300 shift volunteers to operate smoothly. Without
volunteers there would be no IBR. We have a large number of volunteer
shifts, including Hospitality Suite and Hospitality Den (Bear
Den)shifts that do need to be filled. These consist of manning duties like
checking badges, replenishing snacks, etc. It may sound “boring” but
these areas are IBR central for people gathering and you’ll meet tons
of nice people here!

You receive one volunteer token for each volunteer shift you do. One
Token is good for a IBR commerative dog-tag, 2 gets you a spanking
brand new IBR 2008 hat, and three, a T-shirt.  And you also get an
invitation to the IBR 2008 volunteer thank-you luncheon and check
distribution (what it’s all about when we give out the BIG checks!).

Please check out our volunteer shift page and browse the different
shift areas, times, and titles available.  If you sign up for a shift,
PLEASE remember to CHECK YOUR SPAM folder and CONFIRM the shift so we
know you are coming !!

THE LINK IS:  http://www.bosf.org/woof/volunteer

And now for some updates:

IBR registration packages for this year includes non-showtime access to FOUR different draft beers in
our hospitality suite Friday to Sunday.  And a 40% bigger Bear Den (lounge
area) open to 4 AM Fri-Sun !

There are over 700 attendees signed up already,
and although some events have sold out, we still have room at:
- Beach Blanket Babylon (get tickets at HQ)
- Bears Bath and Beyond (walk-up at event)
- Golden Gate Experience(pay bus wrangler outside hotel)
- Blow Buddies (pay at event)
- Crusin’ the Castro Historic Tour: meet outside hotel at 9AM, pay on
tour

Here’s some highlights:

Thursday:

IBR’s Welcome Fuzz Ball, sponsored by A Bear’s Life: Enjoy
complimentary draft beer, snacks and h’orderves as you meet new and
established friends.  Stevo and the staff from A Bear’s Life will be
doing a one-night-only subscription special, which gets you a raffle
ticket to some GREAT prizes like mountain bikes and items from LOGO TV
network!!   At 5:45 IBR will do it’s first live-auction (of nine!): A
morning live on the air on Energy 92.7 FM!  At 6pm, the lights will go
down and the BEARatones will perform their wonderful songs for you.
Check out their new website: www.bearatones.com . Then there’s the
raffle drawings and more fun, and then time for the BOSF Annual
members meeting. At 7:30 we start pre-registration and will-call for
“An Evening With Kathy Griffin”, and then you can enjoy the Welcome
Fuzz Ball, or prepare for FOUR different IBR Partner welcome parties!:

Going Down Down Down

February 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The title may sound a little dirty but I’m letting you all know that the Cubs Out Loud blog is going to be going down. Fortunately, only temporarily.  I’m switching it over from being hosted on WordPress.com (which is nice for all your general blogging needs) to a full fledge host that will allow us for some flexible options.  Please bear with use during this transition. And subscribe to the Podcast Feed in the meantime.  I’m not changing our podcast hosting so everything should just continue to work the same.

COL Out Tonight

February 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Tonight, and every Friday at Ego’s Lounge in Austin, Texas you will find a good friend of COL, Nakia.  Nakia & his Southern Cousins and the lovely and talented Fresh Up Girls give you 1½-2 hours of fantastic music with a mix of his rock, soul and blues influences – he likes to call it Appalachian soul.  Check him out every friday at Ego’s at 510 South Congress in Austin, Texas.  Sign up for his news letter and you can get deal such as one free cover with one full cover of $5.  Check out more information on Nakia on his website Nakia.net.  Buy his CD there and get Nakiawear.

Okay, so I made the Nakiawear term up, so sue me.  Go see Nakia. Yeah.

Bearly Edible

February 7, 2008 · 5 Comments

smokey-chili.jpg

I was checking my feeds, and I was feeling hungry and the first item in the feed was a recipe for Spicy Southwestern Smoky Chili from the Bearly Edible Blog. Needless to say, my stomach sounded like a Bear in heat. This also reminded me of Bear Cookin’: The Original Guide to Bear Comfort Foods and More Bear Cookin’: Bigger And Better. I have Bear Cookin’ and I think I’ll break it out and actually cook almost every one of the recipes. If it has fish in it, I’m not eating it. I’ll report back on the food from the book and let you all know what I think. And I’ll post pictures in a Flickr feed for COL. I’ve also been thinking that it would be interesting to start a Bear Food podcast. Maybe see if Chef Tom of the Bearly Edible blog would like to participate. What do you all think? Would you listen to a podcast about food and bears?
